Tuesday & Wednesday, July 5th and 6th, 2022
Michael and I met in Boston on Tuesday, July 5th, a day before we were to meet our tour group. I flew from Detroit and Michael from Grand Rapids.
On Wednesday, July 6th we took a Lyft to South Boston, had lunch at Ned Divines, and walked around the waters edge. In the evening we signed in to our group, we were COVID tested, and then met the tour group (about 100 people) had dinner and were given some bad news - we had to fly to Greenland from Providence, Rhode Island because Boston Logan was unable to offer a gate for departure. On Thursday, we had to be up and ready to leave by 6 am. No matter, still excited........
Heading to Western Greenland with Michael - Looking forward to going to the Arctic Circle!

We drove from Boston to Rhode Island and boarded a charter flight from Providence, Rhode Island to Kangerlussuaq, Greenland. As it turned out, the airport in Rhode Island was small and quiet - much better than leaving from Boston!

Waiting to take the Zodiac to embark on the Resolution
National Geographic Resolution - 126 passenger capacity
Our Captain

One of our menus - great choices of delicious food
Michael's first beer on board
Cruising the length of the Kangerlussuaq Fjord in route to our first stop, Sisimiut
Hot tub on the ship & yurts you could sleep in should you choose! It stays light in Greenland 24 hours a day during the summer. This phenomenon is known as the midnight sun. In contrast, during the winter months some areas experience several days with no sunlight at all.

Docking in Sisimiut, a former whaling port
Took a walk through Sisimiut and visited the museum
Picturesque town, nice people & beautiful weather!
Sled dog farm - during the summer the government feeds & cares for the animals
First views of icebergs
We took a smaller boat into Disko Bay and cruised among towering icebergs to the UNESCO World Heritage designated Iluissat Icefjord - we were not disappointed
Following 5 photos were taken by NG photographers - I had to include them - awesome!
This is what the sun looks like around 2 am in the morning - of course Michael took this picture while I was in bed!

Stopping in the village of Uummannaq/Qilakitsormiut
I walked thru town and visited the small museum
I did not go on the hike to see the collection of 8 mummies dating back to 1475 and were discovered in 1972. There were 8 people - women and children - Thule people ancestors of the modern Inuit.
A photo of the brochure with info should you be interested
After walking around town, Peter, the Zodiac driver took me on a ride around all these neat ice bergs!
Piece of iceberg brought on board to the bar

Stopped at the Ataneq Fjord and were able to hike, kayak, or ride Zodiacs. I went
kayaking with Jim Wilson, Naturalist and bird expert who graciously shared his photos with me
I probably lost my phone right after I took a picture here.
Glad Jim took the pictures - I probably wouldn't have smiled if I'd known I put my phone down in the water rather than my pocket!
Michael & those on board the Resolution saw a humpback whale, her calves and a male.

Returning to Kangerlussuaq
We had the option of going on a 4 hour drive on the Greenland Ice, no paved roads, no toilets, no amenities OR drive to Lake Ferguson and have lunch by the lake. We chose lunch by Lake Ferguson
Had a great lunch and enjoyed talking to the owners and residents of Lake Ferguson.
The gal who manages the restaurants is from Norway. She moved to Greenland 8 years ago and has no intention of moving she loves hunting, the weather and the scenery.
Tuesday & Wednesday, July 12 & 13, 2022
We flew charter flight from Kangerlussusaq, Greenland to Providence, Rhode Island, then drove to Boston. Michael & I spent the afternoon walking around Boston. Eric, Luke and Henry picked us up and we all had a nice dinner at Legal Seafooods. It was a very nice ending to a great trip. I can't wait for my next trip!!!!
