Saturday we took a tram with our tour group to walk the Akerselva River and visited Mathallen Oslo, an old factory turned into a nice market and restaurant area. Sunday we left Oslo for Flam by bus. We drove thru one of the longest car tunnels in Europe. Along the way we stopped at St. Andrew, one of the best preserved Stave churches in Norway built around 1180. We arrived in beautiful Flam on the Aurlandsfjorden, a beautiful location where we stayed at the historic Freitham Hotel and had the best buffet I ever experienced! I tried minke whale (tasted like beef) goat (tasted like chicken) caviar, all kinds of other meats, fish, salads and deserts. Anita told us about the negative effects cruise ships have on the small town. Although the port fees are advantageous the influx of tourists on one day stress the locals. It would be more advantageous if tourism could be spread out throughout the year. See how overwhelming the cruise ship looks from my first picture of the part and then the picture Anita shared with us. So glad there was no ship during our visit!
Beautiful scenery on the bus ride from Oslo to Flåm
Saw many houses and barns with grass roofs
Port in Flam in the fjord is very narrow, this photo is without the cruise ship
